Description
The model comes complete with painted crew, etched fire irons, spare different length couplings, spare traction tyre, coupling rod removal tool, spare drive shaft etc.
The Models is as built by the GWR and along with 6801-3 was outshopped with a cast iron chimney (not the usual copper capped as on all the other Dapol Granges and is therefore unique). The safety valve cover was also painted over ex works instead of the usual polished brass but running sheds often removed the paint. It also has the correct pattern tender with spoked wheels.
This model of the prototype Grange loco, Arlington Grange, (named after the estate in North Devon), was designed as a 'Mixed Traffic' loco to replace the 43XX class. The duties of MT locos included hauling express passenger trains on secondary lines and secondary trains including fitted express freight trains on the main lines. There were many exceptions of course including hauling 'specials' and extra passenger trains during the holiday season. One nickname given to the Granges was 'the Kings of Cornwall' (GWR Kings were not allowed west of the Tamar).
The model is presented in its as built livery.
