Hockings Ice Cream, made in Appledore vans are a familiar sight all over North Devon. This item is supplied by arrangement with the owners of Hockings' Ices.
The business was started in 1936 by Dave Hocking with one van, a 1928 Morris Cowley converted to an icecream van by a local firm of coachbuilders. This vehicle is still in use at special functions and events in the sole charge of Geoff Hocking.
The Company expanded when Dave (senior) was joined by his son Dave (junior) after the war, and together with other family members they gradually expanded and added sites and vans until today the business has 14 vans and is run by grandsons Geoff and Neil Hocking and great grandson Andrew.
