The LNER built 30 of these 22Foot long horse boxes in 1938. They had a central 2-stall box for the horses and a grooms compartment with a toilet at one end with a food and tack locker at the other. Many were allocated to particular racehorse trainers and most were branded 'return to Newmarket' These vans were XP rated for use in express passenger trains. They lasted into BR traffic and were painted carmine with cream lettering. Eventually these wagons were displaced by road based horse boxes from the early 1960's onwards.
