Prototype information
Introduced in 1900, the only 6 wheel brake vans built by the GWR. These were coded AA1 and were braked on all wheels. Originally Tare Rated 22 tons  – but were later increased to 24 tons. They were ideal for the heavy coal trains operated over parts of the network in that period
62 examples of 6-wheeled 'Toads'  type were built between 1900 and 1902. Many lasted into BR service and were not withdrawn until the 1950's
